Conversations About Suicide – April 18 – Surry Hills

Course Details

Conversations about Suicide is a 4 hour course where you will learn the skills and acquire the knowledge required to safely have a conversation with a suicidal person.

This course will be run in conjunction with Conversations about Non-Suicidal Self-Injury in the afternoon from 1:30-5:30.
We will provide tea & coffee all day, morning & afternoon tea and a light lunch for those attending both sessions. To attend one session is $100- to attend two sessions it is $150.
Resources will be available on the day and you will receive a course handbook.

The venue is a 5-10 minutes walk from Central Station. There is some parking in the side streets.

Instructor Profile

Kirsten Gibbs is the Principal Trainer & Support Coordinator at Empowered Lives –   As a mental health trainer, she brings to her training a wide breadth of knowledge gained from her personal experience living with a mental illness, as a carer of children with mental health issues and her extensive and varied professional experience.

Instructor Profile

Meybell Trabanino is the Lead Mental Health Trainer at Empowered Lives. Workplace in-house training is Meybell’s speciality area, and she also provides public and private training in Victoria & Sydney.

 

Additional Information

Learn practical skills to improve your confidence to provide mental health first aid to someone who is feeling suicidal.

Attending ‘Conversations about suicide’ will help you:

– identify warning signs of suicide

– learn how to talk to someone having suicidal thoughts and behaviours.

At the end of this course you will have the skills and confidence to support someone having a suicidal crisis.

This is a 4 hour course, based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.

The MHFA for the Suicidal Person course is not a therapy or a support group and it is important that people undertaking the course are feeling relatively robust when they undertake it. Specific postvention support services can be found at the beyondblue website.

Empowered Lives will be running Mental Health First Aid for non-suicidal self injury  in a variety of locations, on weekdays, weekends, and evenings. The course cost includes the 4 hour course and refreshments.
